The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. It came to pass in the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the citadel,1:1
And I said: “I pray, Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome (Bayankarudu) God, you who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and observe Your commandments,1:5
Remember, I pray, the word that You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations;1:8
but if you return to Me, and keep My commandments and do them, though some of you were cast out to the farthest part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen as a dwelling for My name.’1:9
For I (Nehemiah) was the king’s cupbearer.1:11
Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach.”2:17
But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official, and Geshem the Arab heard of it, they laughed at us and despised us, and said, “What is this thing that you are doing? Will you rebel against the king?”2:19
Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon.4:17
There were also some who said, “We have mortgaged our lands and vineyards and houses, that we might buy grain because of the famine.”5:35:3
here were also those who said, “We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our lands and vineyards.5:4
After serious thought, I rebuked the nobles and rulers, and said to them, “Each of you is exacting usury from his brother.” So, I called a great assembly against them.5:7
Please, let us stop this usury!5:10
So, the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of Elul, in fifty-two days.6:15
So, Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of men and women and all who could hear with understanding on the first day of the seventh month.8:2
And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up.  And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. Then all the people answered, “Amen, Amen!” while lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.  8:5-6
And Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn nor weep.” For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the Law.8:9
Then those of Israelite lineage separated themselves from all foreigners; and they stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.9:2
You alone are the Lord; You have made heaven, The heaven of heavens, with all their host, The earth and everything on it, the seas and all that is in them, And You preserve them all. The host of heaven worships You.9:6
Forty years You sustained them in the wilderness, they lacked nothing; Their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell.9:21
For in the days of David and Asaph of old there were chiefs of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving to God.12:46
In the days of Zerubbabel and in the days of Nehemiah all Israel gave the portions for the singers and the gatekeepers, a portion for each day. They also consecrated holy things for the Levites, and the Levites consecrated them for the children of Aaron.12:47
On that day they read from the Book of Moses in the hearing of the people, and in it was found written that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever come into the assembly of God,13:1
because they had not met the children of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them. However, our God turned the curse into a blessing.13:2
Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations there was no king like him, who was beloved of his God; and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless, pagan women caused even him to sin.13:26
